'saguaro oscuro' January 2010
15" x 23", natural & synthetic dyed wools, linen, linen fishnet with persimmon extract coating.
"This tapestry is a value study of the fleshy ribs of a saguaro cactus, woven as part of my work for a distance mentoring program created by renowned tapestry artist, Silvia Heyden. In this program Heyden provides challenges in sketching, design, & weaving problems based on Bauhaus principles which are individually interpreted by participants, with guidance sought from Heyden as necessary. The program has three parts, with three months allowed for completion of each". Lyn Hart
I am fascinated that with only one hue you are able to represent the volumes needed for the cactus. The textures on the peaks are lovely. A very expressive monochromy.

Thank you Ixchel, for your comment & thanks to Marie, Mary, & Yvonne for showcasing my work on the ymm blog! I have received my latest order of ymm red violets & blue violets & have already started using them in my latest tapestry, they are fabulous & exactly what I needed to fill out my yarn palette!
